New Media in Baghdad

I thought this might be of interest to someone. I went to a State Department briefing today where we were told that a delegation of executives from several "new media" companies (including AT&T, Google and Blue State Digital, among others) are currently in Baghdad. The spokesman said the eventual goal is to foster transparency in Iraq through developing the new media industry.

I'm sure more about this will show up in the news soon. The trip began yesterday and it will go until April 23.

  1. This is very interesting to me. I am thinking of focusing my presentation topic for this class on the global censorship of new media and how government and politics are being affected throughout the world. I have a Google Alert set up for this topic and came across an article about the executives traveling to Baghdad. Transparency seems to be the greatest fear of many governments and I wonder how the new government in Iraq will respond to new media. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be trying to find out about the outcome of this effort in Iraq once their trip is over. If you come across anything, I'd love to hear about/discuss it! Thanks!
