I decided that it is important to discuss the ethics of the internet, just briefly, when discussing blogging. Blogging has it's own set of ethics, and it is important to discuss them. I thought about discussing a few of the differences between the Internet and print journalism when ethics is involved.
I have an Online Journalism book and a few different articles revolving Weblog ethics and print ethics.

That sounds like an excellent idea. I feel that you should go into the area of corrections on blogs. While in the newspaper, once it is printed it is out there for the world to see and the only way to right a wrong is to print a correction; however, with online journalism, if a fact is wrong you can simple go into HTML and erase or change the fact in question.
ReplyDeleteSome bloggers will draw a line through the wrong information and then make a note near it, other might make a whole new post. Also a newspaper has a physical address that you could go to if you wanted to speak with someone or had a complaint. A blog is not this way. People can blog form anywhere in the world that has internet access. If they get in trouble they can simply stop blogging or erase their blog.
Talk about the lack of permanence with the internet.
I think this is a very important topic and I am curious to see what you come up with? Also being that ethics between print and blogging differs does that mean that bloggers are not journalists since they don't have to play by the same rules? Should they be held just accountable as journalists?
